Hicks Injured in Confrontation with Floyd and Cook, 1883, NC

June 7, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 2d page)

[From Here and There Section]

Gold Leaf: In a difficulty last night, Alex. Hicks was severely cut in the side and about the head by Haywood Cook. Hicks’ wound in the side is of a serious nature, and it is thought he may die from it. George Floyd and Stephen Cook were arrested and held as accessories to the affair. All colored.

[The Gold Leaf appears to have been a newspaper out of Henderson, NC, published from 1881 to 1911.]
