Tarboro Guide: Miss Martha Ann Powell, aunt of Capt. R.C. Brown, died at his residence on Friday of last week, aged 55 years. She was a most estimable lady.


[The 1880 census for Tarboro, Edgecombe, NC, shows M.A. Powell, aunt, living in the home of R.C. Brown, who was a merchant. Mr. Brown was born approximately 1834 and Miss Powell was born approximately 1828. From the 1870 census, it appears that R.C.’s first name is Robert.]
