Motion to Change the Name of Caledonia, NC, in 1883

year 1883

April 12, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page)

-We learn that Dr. W.R. Wood has made a motion in the Board of County Commissioners to change the name of Caladonia [sic] township to Scotland Neck. This is as it should be. Let us have our own proper names to designate our familiar localities.

[According to this web site, Caledonia had been named by its earliest settlers after the Latin word for Scotland. Its first recorded mention by that name was in 1712.]
