Marriage of William Shaw and the Fascinating Mary Smaw, NC, May 25, 1815

Washington 1815

June 2, 1815 (American Recorder, a newspaper of Washington, Beaufort, NC, 3d page)

MARRIED On Thursday evening, the 25th inst*. by Wm. Vines, Esq. Mr. William Shaw, Merchant of this town, to the fascinating Miss Mary Smaw, eldest daughter of Thomas Smaw, Esq, of this vicinity.

_______________

[Usually “inst.” would mean the same month, but I think it was May, given the date and the fact that they kindly provided the day of the week, which, in looking at the date in 1815, corresponds to May 25.]
