June 2, 1815 (American Recorder, a newspaper of Washington, Beaufort, NC, 3d page)

Fire ! ! Fire ! !

Unfortunate Newbern, was we learn, on Sunday night last again revisited by the empetuous and devouring flames ! when 21 buildings were laid in ashes.–The principal sufferers are said to be Messrs. * Justice, Taylor, Benners, Friou & Guion; and the widows Emery, Minor, Slover, and Oliver. It commenced at the stable of Mrs. Minor, through the carelessness of a servant girl, who with a torch in her hand, went there for the purpose of milking the cow; when this dire misfortune ensued.

* Small spot on microfilm I could not read.
