year 1883

March 8, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page)

We are sorry to learn that on Sunday night last Mr. J.C Randolph, proprietor of the well known Caledonia farm, about ten miles from town, lost by fire his barn with about 400 lbs of corn, 8,000 lbs or 10,000 lbs of fodder, and five mules. The barn is supposed to have been fired by an incendiary.
