Bissett Killed in Wilmington, NC, 1883

year 1883

March 8, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page)

The train on the Scotland Neck road has been draped in mourning for Mr. Bissett, a highly esteemed engineer on the W. & W. Railroad, who was killed at Wilmington a few days ago.

_______________

[I believe this is Lawrence Bisset(t), born in 1857 and died February 27, 1883. His gravestone, in Wilmington, has him as the eldest son of John and Kate Bisset, and the 1880 census that matches that information show that he was a “RR machinest.” He was only 26. The gravestone has the notation, “God Knows Best.” His record number on familysearch.org is MWN5-Y6C, and this story has been attached.]
