Marriage of J.B. Neal and Sallie McDowell, NC, February 22, 1883

year 1883

March 1, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page, 2d column)

NEAL–MCDOWELL.–At 8½ o’clock on 22nd of Feb., in the Baptist church, by Rev. J.D. Hufham, Major J.B. Neal, of this town, to Miss Sallie E. McDowell, daughter of the late Rev. Dr. A. Mcdowell of Murfreesboro. The church was well filled with the many friends of the contracting parties, hasty congratulations were extended, and the happy couple took the 9 o’clock train for a tour North. A party of ladies and gentlemen accompanied them as far as Weldon, and returned on the evening train to give account of what they all said was a day of pleasure and “sweet delight.” We join in congratulations, both to the Major and his charming bride, and wish them the full realization of every anticipated pleasure for the future.
