Edmondson Gets a Bale of Cotton for a Hog, NC, 1883

year 1883

March 1, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page, 1st column)

–Mr. D. Edmondson, of this town, killed a hog a few days ago which weighed 150 lbs. He was offered for him a fine bale of cotton before the hog was killed. This looks like dispelling the hard times with “hog,” if not with “hominy.”
