A Thief in the Night Foiled, Palmyra, NC, 1883

year 1883

February 8, 1883 (The Commonwealth, a newspaper of Scotland Neck, NC, 3d page, 2d column)

–On last Friday night some one attempted to rob the store of K. Alsbrook & Co. in Palmyra. There was very little in the house. The thief was discovered, and did not get anything. He passed by the bar of J.R. Hyman, (better known as old Ross), and entered the back door of his room, took his trunk, containing about one hundred dollars in money. Mr. Hyman heard him when he went out, and persued (sic) him so closely that he dropped the trunk and escaped.
